1) What’s your Name, job title & area of research/work?

Deepalakshmi M is a Developer in the IT sector, working at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).

2) What sparked your interest in engineering? Can you describe the moment you realized this was a field you’d like to pursue? 

I always had a keen interest in pursuing my ug in Engineering where the future was based on the minds of engineers and I had an interest in working in IT so I chose this field 

3) What are your experiences of being a female engineer?

I have always had a passion for working as an engineer in the IT field. So it’s always been fun for me to work as a developer

4) Can you tell me more about your career path so far?

I work as a San QL developer and at the same doing some certifications to upgrade my career path which would help me in the future and upgrade my skills as per the demand

5) What has been your most challenging experience as an engineer?

The challenging experience is finishing the given task  on a given time with zero issues and at the same time keeping myself  upgraded with new technology

6) What is the most exciting thing about your job?

Learning new technology is always been an exciting thing about my job 

7) What kind of impact would bring you great satisfaction in your work?

Completing given work on time, engaging ourselves in new tasks, and learning new things.

8) What do you think needs to be done to improve the statistics in terms of women’s participation in engineering?

Students should have an awareness of growing technology in day-to-day life And they should know the importance of pursuing engineering which will help women to participate in the engineering field.

9) Who has been your greatest support, coach, and mentor across [Industry], and why?

My greatest support is from my colleagues and seniors in my office 

10) What is it like to be a woman in engineering? Do you feel that your gender gives you a different perspective and experience from your male counterparts? Any advantages? 

None of the industry sees any difference between the genders they see what you are capable of and our skills and talents in which u can shine and grow on your own.

11) What advice do you have for women interested in engineering? What kinds of practical experience should they have? What technical skills should they pick up? 

If women choose to engineer they should be clear enough to think why they are choosing this and travel accordingly to that, Apart from theoretical knowledge they should take some time apart from college to connect themselves with their seniors or mentors and they should work on real-time projects.

According to the demand they should upgrade their skills there are no such  specific skills they should make themselves ready to with skills in demand and make themselves strong in those skills
