1) What’s your Name, job title & area of research/work?

My name is Suchita Chaurrasiya, and I work as an R&D Engineer in the QA department at Logic Fruit Technologies, Gurugram. My area of focus is testing protocols and networking, where I analyze and ensure the functionality of network-related systems.

2) What sparked your interest in engineering? Can you describe the moment you realized this was a field you’d like to pursue?

The moment I realized I wanted to pursue this field was when I successfully debugged a network issue for the first time. It gave me a sense of achievement and clarity that this was the right field for me.

3) What are your experiences of being a female engineer?

Being a female engineer has been a unique experience.
 But overall, I’ve found support in the engineering community. The key is resilience and having confidence in your skills.

4) Can you tell me more about your career path so far?

I started in engineering with a focus on network systems and gradually moved into protocol testing. Along the way, I’ve worked on multiple projects, honing my skills in testing methodologies, automation, and networking protocols.

5) What has been your most challenging experience as an engineer?

The most challenging experience was troubleshooting a complex networking issue under tight deadlines.

6) What is the most exciting thing about your job?

 The process of testing new protocols is like solving a puzzle, and the satisfaction of finding solutions keeps the job exciting.

7) What kind of impact would bring you great satisfaction in your work?

Seeing the technologies I work on being implemented in real-world applications would bring immense satisfaction. Knowing that my contributions are helping to improve communication systems and solve networking challenges makes all the effort worthwhile.

8) What do you think needs to be done to improve the statistics in terms of women’s participation in engineering?

Encouraging more women through mentorship, offering scholarships, and creating inclusive work environments are important.
Creating a strong support network and offering opportunities for hands-on experiences could make a significant difference.

9) What do you enjoy most and least about engineering?

Finding solutions to complex issues is extremely fulfilling. What I enjoy least is sometimes the long troubleshooting sessions when solutions aren’t immediately clear.

10) Who has been your greatest support, coach, and mentor across [Industry], and why?

My senior colleague guided me through technical challenges and provided insight into the networking domain. They taught me to think critically and never shy away from complex issues.

11) What is it like to be a woman in engineering? Do you feel that your gender gives you a different perspective and experience from your male counterparts? Any advantages? 

Being a woman in engineering brings a unique perspective, especially in how I approach problem-solving. One advantage is that my different approach to communication and teamwork often leads to more collaborative and creative solutions.

12) What advice do you have for women interested in engineering? What kinds of practical experience should they have? What technical skills should they pick up?

My advice is to gain hands-on experience in your area of interest, whether through internships or personal projects. It’s important to develop strong technical skills, such as proficiency in networking tools, automation scripting, and testing methodologies. Never stop learning and stay updated with the latest technologies.
