2) What sparked your interest in engineering? Can you describe the moment you realized this was a field you’d like to pursue?

I have always had a natural talent for problem-solving, finding joy in puzzles, coding challenges, and optimizing processes.

From a young age, I found myself drawn to activities that required logical thinking and creativity. This passion for problem-solving has been a driving force in my career, allowing me to tackle complex technical issues with confidence and ingenuity.

Whether it’s debugging a piece of code or designing an efficient workflow, I thrive on the satisfaction of finding effective solutions to intricate problems.

3) What are your experiences of being a female engineer?

My journey into the world of programming began with early exposure through family members, mentors, and educational programs.

Growing up in an environment where technology and coding were frequently discussed, I developed an interest in programming concepts at an early age.

Mentors and educators played a significant role in nurturing my curiosity, providing me with the guidance and resources needed to explore my interests further.

These early experiences laid a strong foundation for my future career, instilling in me a deep appreciation for the power and potential of software development.

I have always had a fascination with technology, particularly with software, robotics, and gaming.

The ever-evolving nature of these fields captivated my imagination and motivated me to stay abreast of the latest advancements.

By leveraging automation, I aim to reduce manual effort, minimize errors, and accelerate the testing cycle.

Mentorship Programs: Establishing mentorship programs where young women can receive guidance and support from experienced female engineers can help them navigate the challenges of the field.

9) What do you enjoy most and least about engineering?

What I enjoy most about engineering: The problem-solving aspect. There’s a unique satisfaction in tackling complex challenges and developing innovative solutions that can have a real-world impact. I also enjoy the collaborative environment, where ideas are shared and refined to achieve the best outcomes.

What I enjoy least about engineering: The occasional long hours and tight deadlines can be stressful. Additionally, being in a male-dominated field sometimes presents challenges related to stereotypes and biases, which can be discouraging.

10) Who has been your greatest support, coach, and mentor across [Industry], and why?

My greatest support, coach, and mentor has been my manager. They have provided invaluable guidance and feedback that has helped me navigate challenges in my role.

Their openness to share knowledge and encourage my growth has been instrumental in building my confidence and skills. Furthermore, they have always advocated for my professional development and supported my exploration of new technologies and methodologies.

11) What is it like to be a woman in engineering? Do you feel that your gender gives you a different perspective and experience from your male counterparts? Any advantages?

Being a woman in engineering comes with its unique challenges and advantages.

While I sometimes face stereotypes or biases, I also have the opportunity to bring a different perspective to problem-solving and team dynamics.

My experiences can foster more inclusive discussions and innovative solutions, as diverse viewpoints often lead to better outcomes.

Additionally, being a minority in the field has made me more resilient and determined to advocate for more female representation in engineering.

For women interested in engineering, here are some key pieces of advice:

Pursue Your Interests: Explore different engineering disciplines to find what excites you, whether it’s software, mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering.

Gain Practical Experience: Internships, co-op programs, and hands-on projects are invaluable. Participating in hackathons, robotics clubs, or engineering competitions can also provide practical skills and networking opportunities.

Build Technical Skills: Focus on mastering relevant programming languages (like Python, Java, or C++), software development tools, and understanding data structures and algorithms. Familiarity with version control systems like Git is also beneficial.
